Abbey Manor Community Centre Planned Development

Return to main page

Abbey Community Centre opened in September 1991 and is an important community asset in an area that is still developing. The Hall is now in great need of refurbishment. Through consultation with users of the hall and residents of the parish it was realised that the hall is not being used to its full potential. Currently the hall is used for community activities such as Scouting, Guiding, Pre-school, Mother & baby activities, Tea Dance, Badminton, Church services . The hall is hired by a local Ballet school and is also used for family occasions such as Wedding receptions, Parties, etc. However, through the consultation, it was realised that there is a positive need for the provision of additional facilities to enable many more Community activities to take place.
The builders plan to start work on July 18th. The build should be finished by September 12th.

The Committee therefore decided not only to organise a refurbishment project but also to upgrade the hall to take account of the needs of the community. The plans are to include :
1. Enclosure of the upstairs mezzanine floor, together with separate disabled toilet and small kitchen, to enable this area to be used as a separate meeting room.
2. Provision of an exterior ramp to enable disabled access to the first floor.
3. Replacement of an outdated heating system.
4. Lowering of the hall ceiling to reduce heating costs.
The pictures displayed represent an Artist’s impression of the proposed project The current “guesstimate” received from the Architect to cover the cost of the project is £214,000.00. The Committee and User Groups are actively fundraising and have the full support of the Parish Council.
